Multi-Tab Interface
The desktop app includes a built-in tab system. Multiple stations, the media library, and settings can be open simultaneously in separate tabs within one window.
System Tray
The app can minimize to the system tray instead of closing. This keeps the connection active while freeing up taskbar space. Click the tray icon to restore the window.
Session Persistence
Window positions, open tabs, and their state are restored automatically after restarting the app.
Hardware Integration
The desktop app provides full support for hardware mixers like the Airlite. MIDI controllers (Novation Launchkey, iCON P1M, Korg nanoKONTROL2, Rodecaster Pro II) work in both browser and desktop versions through the Web MIDI API.

Installation
- Download the installer for the target platform from xtra.audio.
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Launch the app and sign in with existing xtra audio credentials.
The desktop app connects to the same account and data as the browser version. No separate registration is needed.
Updates
The desktop app checks for updates automatically in the background. When an update is available, it downloads and installs on the next restart.
Release Channels
Two release channels are available:
- Stable — Production-ready releases. This is the default.
- Development — Early access to new features. May contain bugs.
The release channel can be changed in the app settings. Switching channels triggers an immediate update check.
FAQ
Is the desktop app required?
No. The browser version provides full access to all features. The desktop app adds convenience features like tabs, tray integration, and session persistence.
Does the desktop app work offline?
No. An internet connection is required. The desktop app connects to the same cloud infrastructure as the browser version.
Can the browser and desktop app be used simultaneously?
Yes. Both can be open at the same time with the same account. Studio sessions follow the standard collaboration rules — only one user can control playback per station at a time.
How do automatic updates work?
The app checks for updates every 10 minutes in the background. Updates download automatically and apply on the next restart. No manual intervention is needed.
Where is the app data stored?
The app stores preferences and session data locally. All media, playlists, and station data remain on the xtra audio servers, identical to the browser version.
