Audio Processing
The Processing panel controls real-time audio enhancement via StereoTool. Access it through the Processing tab in Panel A.
Overview
Audio processing applies to the master output before encoding. StereoTool provides broadcast-grade processing including:
- Compression and limiting
- Multiband dynamics
- Stereo enhancement
- Loudness normalization
Processing Status
The processing indicator shows current state:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Active (green) | Processing applied to output |
| Bypassed (gray) | Processing disabled, raw audio passes through |
| Error (red) | Processing failed, check configuration |
Enabling Processing
- Open the Processing tab.
- Click the Enable Processing toggle.
- Confirm activation in the dialog.
Processing starts immediately. The output reflects the applied settings.
Bypassing Processing
Temporarily disable processing without losing settings.
- Click the Bypass toggle.
- Processing suspends immediately.
- Click again to re-enable.
Use bypass to compare processed versus unprocessed audio during broadcast.
StereoTool Interface
The Processing tab embeds the StereoTool web interface. All StereoTool controls are accessible directly.
Main sections:
- Input: Gain staging and level adjustment
- Processing: Compression, EQ, and enhancement
- Output: Final limiting and loudness
Refer to StereoTool documentation for detailed parameter explanations.
Preset Management
Presets store complete processing configurations.
Loading a Preset
- Click Load Preset.
- Browse the preset library.
- Select a preset.
- Click Apply.
The preset loads immediately. Changes take effect on the live output.
Saving Changes
Save modifications to the current preset:
- Adjust processing parameters.
- Click Save.
- Changes overwrite the current preset.
Save As New Preset
Create a new preset from current settings:
- Click Save As.
- Enter a preset name.
- Click Create.
The new preset appears in the library.
Preset Library
The preset library contains station-wide presets.
Categories:
- Factory: Default presets included with StereoTool
- Station: Custom presets created for this station
- Shared: Presets shared across stations in the project
Organize presets by broadcast type (music, talk, sports) or time slot (daytime, evening, overnight).
Monitoring with Processing
Control whether your local monitoring includes processing.
- Open Studio Settings.
- Locate Monitor with Processing.
- Toggle on/off as needed.
When disabled, you hear the pre-processed audio while listeners hear processed output. This helps identify processing issues.
Processing and Latency
Audio processing adds latency to the signal path.
- Typical latency: 50-200ms
- Higher latency with complex processing chains
- Enable Low-Latency Mode in settings if needed
Low-latency mode reduces processing quality but minimizes delay for live microphone situations.
