Relay

The Relay panel connects the Studio to external audio streams. Relay external content into your broadcast.

Use Cases

Relay serves several broadcast scenarios:

  • Simulcast from another station
  • Bring in remote broadcasts via stream URL
  • Rebroadcast network programming
  • Emergency backup audio source

Opening the Relay Panel

Access Relay via the Relay tab in Panel B.

The panel shows:

  • Connection URL field
  • Connection status
  • Codec information
  • Track history

Connecting to a Stream

  1. Enter the stream URL in the URL field.
  2. Click Connect.
  3. Wait for connection to establish.

Supported protocols:

  • HTTP/HTTPS streams (Icecast, Shoutcast)
  • HLS streams
  • Direct audio URLs (MP3, AAC, OGG)

Connection Status

The status indicator shows connection state:

StatusMeaning
ConnectedStream active and receiving audio
ConnectingEstablishing connection
DisconnectedNo active connection
ErrorConnection failed (see error message)

Codec Information

When connected, the panel displays stream details:

  • Codec: Audio format (MP3, AAC, OGG)
  • Bitrate: Stream quality (e.g., 128 kbps)
  • Sample Rate: Audio sample rate (e.g., 44100 Hz)
  • Channels: Mono or stereo

Track History

If the external stream provides metadata, the Relay panel shows track history.

  • Current track displays prominently
  • Previous tracks listed below
  • Timestamps show when each track played

Metadata availability depends on the source stream configuration.

Forwarding Metadata

Option to pass relay metadata to your output stream.

  1. Toggle Forward Metadata on.
  2. Incoming track info displays on your stream.
  3. Toggle off to use your own metadata.

Use metadata forwarding when the relay content should be attributed to the original source.

Activating Relay Audio

Connect the relay to your broadcast output.

Via Playlist

  1. Add an External Source item to the playlist.
  2. Select the Relay as the source.
  3. The relay audio plays when the item triggers.

Manual Activation

  1. Click Activate in the Relay panel.
  2. Relay audio mixes into the broadcast.
  3. Click Deactivate to stop.

Manual activation overrides playlist scheduling. Use with caution during automated broadcasts.

Audio Level

The relay has a dedicated level control.

  1. Locate the level slider in the Relay panel.
  2. Adjust to match your broadcast levels.
  3. Monitor peaks via the built-in meter.

Relay audio routes through the mixer for final output.

Disconnecting

End the relay connection.

  1. Click Disconnect.
  2. The stream stops immediately.
  3. Any active relay audio in the broadcast cuts out.

Disconnect gracefully by fading relay audio before stopping the connection.
